Chairman's Welcome!

Good Morning, Happy New Year and I hope your Christmas and other holidays were great and safe for you and your families.  We have some really terrific news to report. So, I'll make my introduction brief here. You can see the expanded version by clicking on the Read More link here or at the end.

1. NLEOM Applications. We have had two great performances by Security Force unit project managers at MacDill and Hanscom that resulted in the application of two SF heroes (Lt Joe Helton and Senior Airmen Phan) to be recognized by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

2. 11th SFS Returns. On early December, we met with the 11th Security Forces Squadron leadership at Bolling to welcome them back and also to pledge a donation of $500.00 when they have activated their SF Booster Club and Key Spouse Club.

3. Maisey Building Wreath Laying. We will be hosting the 53d commemoration of Captain Reginald V. Maisey's heroic defense of Bien Hoa Air Base that resulted in his death. We will be laying the wreath on January 29 under strict guidelines.

4. Chairman's Annual Christmas Visit to Arlington. With approval by the Deputy Director of Security Forces at Arlington National Cemetery, I was approved to drive onto the cemetery which allowed me to complete my annual Christmas visit to Arlington.

5. Annual Donation Drive. Our requirements to support more units have increased. The challenges to our SF Booster Clubs and Key Spouse clubs are more daunting due to Covid-19 social distancing requirements. We want to give them more $$. Moreover, I'd like for us to award SF unit booster clubs and key spouse clubs who successfully submit a Security Forces hero to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. This award for completion also serves as motivation for those units that have not completed their nomination packages.  I'd like to award them $500.00.  One member of our board will match your donations up to $1,500.00 - so we can get this done.

Stay safe, observe pandemic restraints that are appropriate for you, your family, and your business and we'll see each other again at a future Eagle Chapter event in 2021. Reminder - an Eagle Board Member will match your donation. If you'd like to join in on the fun of matching donations, just send me a note and we can double our pleasure - double the fun. :-) Where have I heard that before?

Thank-you.

Very respectfully,
Lee

We published our previous chapter newsletter on May 25, 2020. Note: This is a new format that our vendor is making me use. I'll get better at it.

Eagle Chapter membership is free to all Air Force Security Forces Association members who work or live in DC, DE, MD, VA and WV.

Eagle Chairman's Annual Christmas Visit to Arlington National Cemetery Returns in 2020

This year we are providing snapshots of all of the internment sites that the Eagle Chairman visited this December 2020. Our list includes former Eagle Chapter Board Members (Chief Goudie, Chip Schram, and Mike Rusaw who died while still serving), SF who died while serving in Iraq and one SF, Captain Maisey who died while serving in Vietnam as well as family members or SF who we've been requested to recognize.

Eagle Chaplain, Jim Stastny, created a prayer that the Chairman requested to start his annual visit to the internment sites of our loved ones who are at Arlington National Cemetery. Our thanks again to Mr. Francis S. Warren, Deputy Director of Security Forces Arlington National Cemetery for facilitating my visit.

"Our God ~ Heavenly Father, we come to you during this most joyful time of the year, Christmas.  We come celebrating the birth of Your son, Jesus Christ, who came to save His people from their sins. Nevertheless, as we come, we come with joy mingled with sorrow.  Sorrow because we miss loved ones who are no longer here to celebrate with us.  Some have died because of old age, some illness or disease, others because of accidents, one by their own hand, and some, Lord, because they have given their lives in defense of freedom. Lord, for those who sacrificed themselves, we give You Great thanks. We ask that you bless all those, who sorrow, with joy.  Enable them to celebrate Christmas with all their heart and soul. Let them think about the great times they had, in the past, with their departed loved ones. Let those memories bring warmth and comfort and even laughter.

Now blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction. Amen"

Jerry Christy, the Medic who attended to Captain Maisey (one of our fallen's gravesite that the chairman visited), responded to Facebook queries by Vietnam Security Police Association Members. Jerry's home town is Piqua, Ohio. While serving at the Battle of Bien Hoa Vietnam, he was assigned to the 3rd Medical Dispensary, Bien Hoa, VN

His FB Post of 5/12/2020

"I have thought about this officer for 52 years...never knew his name.  As a medic, I treated numerous casualties, but could never remember a single name.  You (Bob Connor) just posted that only one officer was KIA that night....so, now I have a name.  I am the one that put him into a body bag.  I am in tears Bob.  I once went to the Wall with the plan to touch every name from 12/67 to 12/68 guaranteeing that I would touch those that I once touched when in Nam.....I was overwhelmed with the near impossible task to touch each one....I couldn't accomplish my task.

With your post, I now have a name....Captain Reginald Maisey.  Thank you for sharing.  This is why I joined this group.  I look forward to my next visit to the Wall."
